And considering its features, it is surprisingly affordable.

The Super Dragon exudes power. Its 21,600 watts heat the 27” wide, 27” deep, 36” high interior to cone 10 with ample power to spare. This results in long element life, because the elements do not “struggle” to reach high temperatures. Dropped, recessed grooves seat industrial-gauge elements.

Extra insulation saves energy and lengthens cooling. The 4” thick walls, top and door are made of 3” firebrick backed by 1” of ceramic fiber block insulation. The floor is 4 ½” thick firebrick. The extra insulation not only saves energy but also cools the kiln slowly without having to turn the elements back on. This gives the micro-crystalline structure and color of the glaze sufficient time for full development. Cool slowly to achieve dramatic shifts in glaze color such as iron reds and enjoy the richer look of gas firing. Create breathtaking pottery in the exciting Super Dragon.

The elements are “tuned,” which means hotter elements are placed in areas of the firing chamber that need more heat. This results in superior heat distribution.

The Sentry 2.0 digital controller is standard on Paragon front-loading pottery kilns. Results are repeatable from one firing to the next with astounding accuracy. The solid-state controller continually monitors the firing. This is almost like hiring an assistant.

Do you ever wonder how much electricity your kiln uses? The digital controller will figure this for you; merely program the kiln’s wattage and your cost of electricity into the controller. Paragon Super Dragon

The Super Dragon is an industrial furnace designed for pottery and ceramic studios.

Learn to conserve energy by experimenting with firing speed, load density, etc.

The Type-K thermocouple, hermetically sealed for accuracy, is standard. We also recommend the optional Type-S for stoneware and porcelain.

Long-lasting mercury relays power the elements. A bank of built-in NEC/UL compliant high-amperage fuses protects the kiln and circuit wiring. Potters who struggle with top-loading kilns will enjoy the Super Dragon. The door swings open wide on a heavy hinges with sealed bearings. The Super Dragon has a floating door system with four spring door latches. The door hinge is fastened to a 2” tubular steel frame that extends from the floor to the top of the kiln. The latches press the door tightly closed.

The ventilated switch box is generously louvered for air circulation for the long life of the electrical components. Yet dust is kept to a minimum.

The stand is built into the Super Dragon and comes at no extra charge. (Note: Casters are not available for the Super Dragon.)

Doorway Clearance

The Super Dragon will fit through a 42” doorway.

Order the optional Orton Vent Master, which mounts to the back of the kiln. (Note: Door elements and stainless steel finish are not available on the Super Dragon.)

Options and Accessories

3 Zone Control Upgrade – Type K Thermocouples
Improve temperature uniformity. The standard digital Paragon kiln is single zone; 3-zone is a factory-installed option that controls temperature from 3 separate locations in the kiln.

3 Zone Control Upgrade – Type S Thermocouples
Improve temperature uniformity. The standard digital Paragon kiln is single zone; 3-zone is a factory-installed option that controls temperature from 3 separate locations in the kiln. Deluxe S-Type thermocouples are ideal for temperatures over cone 4.

Door Safety Switch
The optional door safety switch turns off power to the heating elements when the door is opened. The controller remains powered. The switch turns the power to the elements back on when the door is closed. The switch mounts to the top of the door hinge shaft. Paragon recommends the safety switch on enameling kilns where enameling pieces are inserted into a hot kiln, and on glass kilns where the hot glass is raked or embossed. IMPORTANT: The door safety switch is required in some areas such as Canada and Europe.

Orton Auto-Cone Backup Shutoff
The Auto-Cone is an optional factory-installed safety backup for digital kilns. It comes without the Limit Timer. The Auto-Cone is housed in a separate box on the side of the kiln. The price shown below is for the Auto-Cone backup ordered for a new digital kiln.

The Auto-Cone operates the same as the earlier Dawson Kiln Sitter. Mount a small cone on the cone supports. Since the Auto-Cone is a safety backup, the cone should be one to two cones hotter than the programmed firing. Thus, the digital controller can still turn off the kiln at the proper time.

Orton improved the basic Kiln Sitter design. The Auto-Cone uses a more durable metal in the sensing rod and cone supports that withstands high temperatures better than stainless steel. They also chrome-plated the swivel parts to help resist corrosion. Each Auto-Cone comes with a screwdriver, allen wrenches, and a downloadable operating manual.

Even though a kiln is equipped with the Auto-Cone backup shut-off, you should still monitor the kiln from time to time during operation. We cannot guarantee a kiln against overfiring.

Furniture Kit
Recommended furniture kit for the Paragon Dragon, Super Dragon, and equivalent sized kilns. Included:
1 C-30 Shelf (22” x 22” x 1”)
4 - C30H ½ Shelves (22” x 11” x 1”)
1 1/2” wide Square Posts, 8 each of - 4”, 6”, 8” lengths
1 lb. Bag Kiln Wash
Shipping size: 24” long x 24” wide x 9” high
Ware is fired on shelves that are separated by posts so you can fire multiple layers of ware in your kiln. Coat the shelves with kiln wash, which prevents glaze or glass from sticking to the shelves.

Auxiliary Port for Orton Vent-Master
AUXILLARY OUTPUT FOR SENTRY II CONTROLLERS (VENT CONTROL) The AOP (Auxiliary Output) is an electrical outlet mounted to the kiln. Plug either a downdraft vent or an external alarm into the AOP. Control the vent with Cone-Fire or Ramp-Hold modes.

Orton Vent-Master
KILNVENT MASTER 120V M9 VENT MASTER (Installed after the kiln is set up)

The patented Orton Vent Master not only vents fumes but also improves firing results.

It pulls fresh oxygen into the kiln for brighter colors, especially noticeable with red and orange glazes and decals. Fire red and green glazes in the same load without glaze contamination. The Vent Master draws air from the kiln, dilutes it with room air, and pushes it outdoors through a vent hose.

The extra oxygen and increased air movement help burn carbon out of the clay, which helps eliminate a host of firing problems: bloating, dark patches in the clay, porcelain mildew, pinholes, pitting, blisters, and bubbles.

The Vent Master removes fumes containing volatile metals, fluorides and sulphur oxides. You can fire even lusters, decals, metallics, and pate-de-verre glass without strong odor.

The flow of fresh air helps even out the temperature throughout the kiln. The vent also extends the life of the Kiln Sitter tube assembly, since fumes by-pass the tube. You will enjoy the convenience of the Vent Master. Throughout the firing, keep the lid closed and peephole plugs inserted. You no longer need to remember to lower the hot lid from vented position.

The Vent Master increases firing time by about five minutes for firings up to cone 4; 12 minutes for firings from cone 4 to 10. It has little effect on maximum temperature. At 132 watts, electrical consumption of the Vent Master motor is only pennies per firing.

From the shut-off temperature down to 1000°F, the Vent Master has little effect on cooling time. From 1000°F to room temperature, it reduces cooling time by about two hours.

As with Paragon kilns, the Orton Vent Master can be made for any electrical system in the world. Approved for use in the 1992 Uniform Mechanical Code. UL/CSA approved for UL Listed kilns. ETL Listed, CE Certified. Two year limited warranty.

Order a kiln with the Vent Master and we will drill all necessary holes at no extra charge. (Please note: kilns in stock will not be uncrated to drill the holes.) The holes are only ¼”.

The Vent Master requires a separate 120 volt wall plug unless your kiln is equipped with the AOP vent.

A 3’ long 2” duct comes with each vent. The 2” duct runs between the collection cup and the blower motor. Use 4” aluminum dryer duct or 4” PVC pipe between the motor and the vent outlet. (Do not use vinyl dryer duct.)

Position the Vent Master next to the kiln and attach the collection cup to the bottom or side of the kiln. The collection cup fits under most top-loading kilns. (Note: The kiln stand must be at least 5” high to accommodate the collection cup.) Since the vent motor is away from the kiln, there is no vibration in the kiln, the motor is kept away from the heat of the kiln, and the fan is easy to clean. The Vent Master works with all Paragon kilns except the smallest tabletop models. The Vent Master can vent two kilns. For the second kiln, order the Vent Master Expansion Kit.

Sentinel Controller optional on new kilns with a Sentry Controller Sentinel Controller optional on new kilns with a Sentry Controller
This kiln can be ordered with the optional Sentinel Smart Touch controller instead of the standard Sentry 2.0 12-key controller. The upgrade price is only for a Sentinel ordered with a new kiln. The Sentinel is available as an option on any Paragon kiln that comes with the 12-key Sentry controller.

The new controller is made by Bartlett Instruments of Fort Madison, Iowa. New Paragon kilns equipped with the Sentinel give a continuous amperage and circuit voltage readout during firings. This is to inform the kiln user of voltage drops during times of heavy electrical demand, such as hot summers. The amperage reading indicates when the elements are beginning to wear.

Ramp-Hold programs can have a customized program title, which is entered through a touch screen. Store 12 custom programs with up to 32 segments per program. The Sentinel includes Novice Mode, which adds questions to guide you during programming. The controller can be updated through WiFi. View the progress of a firing in graph mode. The firing schedule can be edited during firing with Skip Step, Add Segments, Add Temperature, and Add Time. The Sentinel can turn a kiln vent or gas injection flow meter on or off for each segment of a program.

Lid or Door Safety Switch Lid or Door Safety Switch
The optional lid or door safety switch turns off power to the heating elements when the lid is raised or door is opened. The controller remains powered. The switch turns the power to the elements back on when the lid is closed. The switch mounts to the back of the lid or front of the door. IMPORTANT: The lid or door safety switch is required in some areas such as Canada and Europe.
Orton Ventmaster, Not Installed Orton Ventmaster, Not Installed KILNVENT MASTER 120V M9 VENT MASTER (Installed after the kiln is set up) The patented Orton Vent Master not only vents fumes but also improves firing results.

Important Information about free shipping

If you are located within our local delivery area (125 miles from our location) we will most likely delivery your order using one of our two delivery trucks. We will contact you to schedule a delivery time.

Kiln Shipping Information
The most important thing to remember is that almost all kilns ship for FREE to the contiguous United States. If you need a kiln shipped outside of the lower 48 please contact us by phone at 314-963-0180 or email sales@kruegerpottery.com to obtain a freight quote.
You probably realize that kilns can be very heavy and you may be nervous about ordering one online and having it shipped, but we will help you make the process smooth and easy.
Most kilns ship on a truck rather than by UPS, but don't worry, because just like a UPS shipment we handle all the paperwork and logistics.

Receiving a Kiln
Kilns are shipped on wooden pallets or crated in wooden boxes and delivery by a trucking company does not include unpacking the kiln, moving it into your building or hauling away any packing materials. If your kiln is being delivered to a residential location or a location without a loading dock we will request a lift gate so the kiln can be removed from the truck and placed on level ground. When the truck arrives the driver will unload the kiln and move it on the pallet or crate to a location near the truck. Most drivers are accommodating and will place the kiln in a reasonable location at your request BUT trucking companies are only required to unload the kiln from their truck so you should have a plan in place to move it to the final location. All kilns come with instructions on how to unpack and move your new kiln. For residential deliveries freight companies will schedule a delivery window with you in advance so you can be prepared to move your kiln to the final location.

Kiln Inspection and Damage
- It is YOUR responsibility to inspect merchandise prior to the delivery agent's departure. Inspecting your shipment includes checking for missing items as well as looking for damage to the items and the packaging. We have a signed BOL (Bill of Lading) stating that the shipment left our warehouse complete and in good condition so it is critical you inspect BEFORE signing for receipt. If you sign the receipt without a note indicating damage and/or missing items it is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE for us to file a claim on your behalf.

- If the merchandise OR packaging appears to be damaged in any way, please note the damage on the freight bill and retain a copy (a photo of the paperwork is fine). This will aid in the return/replacement process. In the case of damage you may refuse the delivery. If you do this you must contact us immediately so we can work with the carrier to resolve the issue.

- If damage is discovered after the driver has left, contact us IMMEDIATELY. If you do not contact us within 5 days damage claims CANNOT be made with the carrier and you will be responsible for repair costs. As long as damage is reported to us within 5 days we can file a claim to get it repaired. For this reason it is critical you open and inspect all freight deliveries before the window closes.

Local Delivery
When you buy a kiln from Krueger Pottery Supply and you live within 150 miles of our location in St. Louis or staff typically delivers your kiln on one of our delivery trucks.
