It will help to unlock your potential as a glass artist. The kiln is an investment that pays for itself by firing large glass panels or production loads of small pieces. Imagine how many dichroic pendants you could fire in one load! The Pearl-4426 is proudly made in America by skilled workers, some with decades of experience. This deluxe kiln is designed for those whose livelihood depends on reliable glass production.

Assemble glass inside the firing chamber

The Pearl-4426 top lifts away to give convenient access to the shelf area. Heavy-duty air pistons lighten the top. The lid handle is 50” long for convenient opening. Assemble glass pieces directly on the 42” x 24” CoreLite shelf that you have already positioned inside the kiln. A woven rope seal mounted on all four sides of the lid acts as a gasket and cushions the top. The mating surfaces between the lid and sidewalls are hardened and sealed with a special refractory coating.

Quartz element tubes

The lid elements are protected in six quartz tubes for a cleaner kiln interior. There is less dust in the kiln, because there are no element grooves; the firebrick top is one continuous, smooth surface. The quartz tubes protect the elements from contamination with foreign materials that could shorten the element life. The quartz tubes absorb very little heat, allowing the elements to heat the firing chamber efficiently. Quartz tubes protect the user from contact with the elements.

Elements in the top and sides

For even heat distribution, the Pearl-4426 includes two rows of sidewall elements, which are mounted in the top section that lifts up with the lid when the kiln is opened. Program the digital controller to balance the heat between the top and sides in increments of 10%. (i.e., 100% top heat - 0% side heat, 50% top - 50% sides, 80% top – 20% sides, etc.) Set the heat balance for any combination desired between the top and sides so that the total heat output equals 100%. For instance, mercury relays are standard on this kiln. Relays send power to the elements on command from the digital controller. Industrial-grade mercury relays found in the Pearl-4426 far outlast mechanical relays. The life of the quiet, reliable mercury relay has been measured in millions of on/off cycles.

Heavy duty kiln

The Pearl-4426 has 3” thick firebrick sidewalls, bottom and top. (This is 1/2” thicker than the firebricks in some competitive kilns on the market.) For long life, the kiln has a 1/2” ceramic fiber expansion joint in the center of the firebrick top and bottom. The heavy tubular frame gives the firing chamber rock-steady support.

To keep the electrical components cool, they are mounted inside a ventilated switch box with a double heat shield and air gap between the kiln and box. Paragon Pearl-4426 Glass Fusing Kiln

The sleek Pearl-4426 Professional Series glass kiln is exciting to look at and to operate.

The sidewall element coils are protected in dropped, recessed grooves.

Power ratio technology

The kiln uses advanced power ratio technology, pioneered by Paragon, to balance the heat between the top and side elements. Imagine the precise control you will have in adjusting the kiln to slump glass or to improve heat distribution over large fused panels.

The two pilot lights on the control panel indicate which elements are firing. The top pilot light glows for the lid elements; the bottom pilot light glows for the sidewall elements.

Long-lasting mercury relays

The Pearl-4426 includes features not found on most competitive kilns.

Costly heavy-gauge nickel-plated copper wiring is covered with high temperature glass-braided insulation.

Easy maintenance

The beautiful Pearl-4426 is designed for easy maintenance. You can quickly remove the top and front sections of the control panel for easy access to the electrical components. The electrical parts are thoughtfully laid out for quick maintenance inside the large control panel. The ventilation slots keep the control panel cool. The control panel includes an on/off switch and two pilot lights.

Special limit thermocouple for greater accuracy

The thermocouple, which is the rod that extends into the firing chamber, senses the temperature, so it is critically important to your firings. The Pearl-4426 comes with a ¼” wide Type-K made with special limit wire for accuracy. The tip of the thermocouple is exposed, which results in rapid temperature response time. The new and improved thermocouple replaces our earlier sheathed thermocouple. The new thermocouple is made in America to our exacting standards.

Digital temperature control

You will be amazed at the convenience of digital firing. The reliable solid-state Sentry controller continually monitors the firing so you can spend your time productively without closely watching the kiln. (Please remember, however, to check the kiln during firing and to monitor it near the expected shutoff time.) The sealed touch pad keeps out dust and is easy to wipe clean.

Paragon’s innovative controller will help you achieve consistent results from one firing to the next. The controller has powerful features that you will enjoy using.

Do you ever wonder how much electricity your kiln uses? The digital controller can figure this for you with the press of a button. Find out how little a kiln actually costs to fire.

Environmentally Friendly Paint

The Pearl-4426 has a durable high temperature, water-base finish. We chose water-base paint because of the low emissions during spraying. This creates a safer working environment for our employees and cuts down on pollution.

Features of the Pearl-4426

 • Heating elements in the top of the kiln are mounted in deluxe quartz tubes.
 • Thermocouple with exposed tip for accuracy and fast response
 • 12-key Sentry 2.0 digital controller
 • Safety switch and pilot light
 • Air pistons assist lifting the lid.
 • Easy access to electrical parts
 • Louvered switch box, heavy duty wiring
 • Heavy tubular steel frame for rock-steady support.
 • Welded plates mounted to the legs for optional 2” solid steel locking casters

Printed instruction manuals

Included with your kiln is a 28-page controller instruction manual, a 48-page glass manual, technical bulletins, and blank firing record sheets. The manuals have been painstakingly researched and are written in plain English, printed in two colors, and are fully illustrated.

No extra charge for crating

The Pearl-4426 is shipped in a wooden crate. Inquire about the crating cost of a competitive kiln when figuring prices. Because Paragon is in the central U.S. along a major shipping route, our shipping cost is often lower than that of our competition. We pass this savings on to you.

240 or 208 volts

Most of Paragon’s standard 240 volt kilns can be ordered in 208 volts. To compensate for the lower voltage, Paragon’s 208 volt kilns use a different set of elements so they will perform as well as the equivalent 240 volt models. For this reason, the elements in 240 and 208 volt kilns, even for the same kiln model, are not interchangeable. So please be sure to specify the correct voltage when you order your kiln. By using different elements for different voltages, total watts consumed by different kiln versions remain the same. 240 and 208 kilns of the same model have the same maximum temperature rating.

Optional colors at no extra charge

Brighten your studio with color! Order your kiln in one of our standard colors at no extra charge . . . berry, black, blue, hot pink, jade, navy, purple, or turquoise. Scroll down to see color samples in the options section.

Paragon’s warranty is not affected by frequency of use. Fire your new kiln every day if you want, even in commercial settings. That will have no effect on the warranty period.

Glass is fired in the kiln on a shelf. Coat the shelf with glass separator to prevent the glass from sticking to the shelf. Place short posts between the shelf and the kiln bottom to circulate heat around the shelf. Paragon’s durable cordierite shelves resist warpage and thermal shock. They are volume-stable.

CoreLite kiln shelves are extruded hollow refractory materials that are diamond wet ground for flatness on both sides. The one-piece shelf is light weight. Please follow these firing guidelines to prevent the CoreLite shelf from cracking.

Manufacturer’s Guidelines for Using Large CoreLite shelves

1) Surface Coverage
Do not use a large CoreLite shelf if your glass pieces cover less than half of the total shelf surface area. Small surface area coverage on a large shelf will concentrate the heat into a small area and place thermal stress on the shelf, which will crack it. Do not place casting molds on the CoreLite shelf. This also causes thermal stress.

2) Heating and Cooling Rates
CoreLite recommends that the shelf is heated no faster than 200 degrees F / 111 degrees C per hour, particularly if the surface coverage is low. A large shelf without joints must absorb and shed heat at a rate that will allow the shelf to grow and shrink without thermal shocking. The ideal heating and cooling rate is 140-160 degrees F / 77-88 degrees C hour. CoreLite suggests holding at 1000 degrees F / 537 degrees C on the heat up for 1 hour and another 1 1/2- 2 hours on the cool down. This should not affect the glass and will allow the shelf to accommodate and relieve the stress.

Orton Ventmaster, Installed Orton Ventmaster, Installed
KILNVENT MASTER 120V M9 VENT MASTER, Installed (on large 4-sided kilns) The patented Orton Vent Master not only vents fumes but also improves firing results. At this price, the vent is factory-installed onto the back of the kiln.

It pulls fresh oxygen into the kiln for brighter colors, especially noticeable with red and orange glazes and decals. Fire red and green glazes in the same load without glaze contamination. The Vent Master draws air from the kiln, dilutes it with room air, and pushes it outdoors through a vent hose.

The extra oxygen and increased air movement help burn carbon out of the clay, which helps eliminate a host of firing problems: bloating, dark patches in the clay, porcelain mildew, pinholes, pitting, blisters, and bubbles.

The Vent Master removes fumes containing volatile metals, fluorides and sulphur oxides. You can fire even lusters, decals, metallics, and pate-de-verre glass without strong odor.

The flow of fresh air helps even out the temperature throughout the kiln. The vent also extends the life of the Kiln Sitter tube assembly, since fumes by-pass the tube. You will enjoy the convenience of the Vent Master. Throughout the firing, keep the lid closed and peephole plugs inserted. You no longer need to remember to lower the hot lid from vented position.

The Vent Master increases firing time by about five minutes for firings up to cone 4; 12 minutes for firings from cone 4 to 10. It has little effect on maximum temperature. At 132 watts, electrical consumption of the Vent Master motor is only pennies per firing.

From the shut-off temperature down to 1000°F, the Vent Master has little effect on cooling time. From 1000°F to room temperature, it reduces cooling time by about two hours.

As with Paragon kilns, the Orton Vent Master can be made for any electrical system in the world. Approved for use in the 1992 Uniform Mechanical Code. UL/CSA approved for UL Listed kilns. ETL Listed, CE Certified. Two year limited warranty.

The Vent Master requires a separate 120 volt wall plug unless your kiln is equipped with the AOP vent. (Vents that plug into the AOP of a 208 or 240 volt kiln must be the same voltage as the kiln.)

A 3’ long 2” duct comes with each vent. The 2” duct runs between the collection cup and the blower motor. Use 4” aluminum dryer duct or 4” PVC pipe between the motor and the vent outlet. (Do not use vinyl dryer duct.)

Since the vent motor is away from the kiln, there is no vibration in the kiln, the motor is kept away from the heat of the kiln, and the fan is easy to clean. The Vent Master works with all Paragon kilns except the smallest tabletop models. The Vent Master can vent two kilns. For the second kiln, order the Vent Master Expansion Kit.

Important Information about free shipping

If you are located within our local delivery area (125 miles from our location) we will most likely delivery your order using one of our two delivery trucks. We will contact you to schedule a delivery time.

Kiln Shipping Information
The most important thing to remember is that almost all kilns ship for FREE to the contiguous United States. If you need a kiln shipped outside of the lower 48 please contact us by phone at 314-963-0180 or email sales@kruegerpottery.com to obtain a freight quote.
You probably realize that kilns can be very heavy and you may be nervous about ordering one online and having it shipped, but we will help you make the process smooth and easy.
Most kilns ship on a truck rather than by UPS, but don't worry, because just like a UPS shipment we handle all the paperwork and logistics.

Receiving a Kiln
Kilns are shipped on wooden pallets or crated in wooden boxes and delivery by a trucking company does not include unpacking the kiln, moving it into your building or hauling away any packing materials. If your kiln is being delivered to a residential location or a location without a loading dock we will request a lift gate so the kiln can be removed from the truck and placed on level ground. When the truck arrives the driver will unload the kiln and move it on the pallet or crate to a location near the truck. Most drivers are accommodating and will place the kiln in a reasonable location at your request BUT trucking companies are only required to unload the kiln from their truck so you should have a plan in place to move it to the final location. All kilns come with instructions on how to unpack and move your new kiln. For residential deliveries freight companies will schedule a delivery window with you in advance so you can be prepared to move your kiln to the final location.

Kiln Inspection and Damage
- It is YOUR responsibility to inspect merchandise prior to the delivery agent's departure. Inspecting your shipment includes checking for missing items as well as looking for damage to the items and the packaging. We have a signed BOL (Bill of Lading) stating that the shipment left our warehouse complete and in good condition so it is critical you inspect BEFORE signing for receipt. If you sign the receipt without a note indicating damage and/or missing items it is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE for us to file a claim on your behalf.

- If the merchandise OR packaging appears to be damaged in any way, please note the damage on the freight bill and retain a copy (a photo of the paperwork is fine). This will aid in the return/replacement process. In the case of damage you may refuse the delivery. If you do this you must contact us immediately so we can work with the carrier to resolve the issue.

- If damage is discovered after the driver has left, contact us IMMEDIATELY. If you do not contact us within 5 days damage claims CANNOT be made with the carrier and you will be responsible for repair costs. As long as damage is reported to us within 5 days we can file a claim to get it repaired. For this reason it is critical you open and inspect all freight deliveries before the window closes.

Local Delivery
When you buy a kiln from Krueger Pottery Supply and you live within 150 miles of our location in St. Louis or staff typically delivers your kiln on one of our delivery trucks. Our staff will unpack your kiln and set it up in your building. We are not licensed electricians so we cannot do any electrical work on your home or businesses electrical system to install a kiln. Consult a qualified electrician to have a circuit run or check your existing configuration. We will also haul away all trash and packaging at your request. Cardboard and packaging are recycled if at all possible.
