About the Skutt GM818 Glass Kiln
With a side fired kiln you need to fire a little slower but you more then make up the time with the amount of work you can get in the kiln. Great for annealing blown glass vessels too!
The Skutt GM818 is part of Skutt's Production Glass Kiln line. This kiln is extremely versatile and allows for fusing on multiple layers. With Zone Control standard, the GM PK kilns fire evenly top to bottom. The 18" deep chamber make this kiln ideal for large drop molds and annealing sculptures. The multi-sided sectional design makes this kiln easy to move and the coated brick lid prevents particles from falling into your work.
Controller - Sophisticated, Yet Easy to Use
Use of of Skutt's built in programs or customize your own.
Current Sensing Technology
Skutt is one of the few brands that installs a Current Sensor in every GlassMaster Kiln.
Sectional Design
Makes moving, repair and installation much easier.
Balanced Elements
To compensate for heat loss through the lid and slab, Skutt directs more heat to these areas when they design the elements.
Zone Control
Thermocouple in each section of the kiln allows controller to control each section separately to even out temperature variations top to bottom.
The Thermocouple
Thin-walled inconel cover equals faster reaction time and higher accuracy.

Sophisticated, Yet Easy to Use Controller GlassFire Mode allows you to write a program simply by choosing your technique and the speed. It’s that easy! Write your own firing programs with up to 8 Segments using Ramp and Hold. Now you can store up to 12 programs. Built in Diagnostics give you or our technicians the ability to diagnose kiln problems with just a few button presses. The Alarm feature allows you to set a temperature alarm that will notify you when the kiln is at peak temperature. Adjust temperatures or hold times while the kiln is firing using Add Time or Add Temp or simply press Anneal Now to set your project and begin annealing it. Use the Delay Start feature to fire the kiln when it is convenient for you to be there when the kiln reaches temperature. |
Current Sensing Technology Skutt is one of the few brands that installs a Current Sensor in every KilnMaster Kiln. This allows you to read the Amperage of each section of the kiln as well as the Voltage and Voltage Under Load. |

Sectional Design Moving - Imagine trying to move a kiln into the basement or through a narrow door without being able to break it down into sections. Repair - No more standing on your head in the kiln to replace those bottom elements or removing every brick in the kiln to get to the one you want to replace. Just remove the control box, unhook the buckles and place the section you want to work on on a table. Replacement - We hope nothing really bad happens to your kiln … but … if it does, isn’t nice to know you can replace one bad section instead of the whole kiln? |
Balanced Elements A large amount of the heat you lose in your kiln passes to through the lid and slab of your kiln. To compensate for this, Skutt directs more heat to these areas when they design the elements. The fact that we have twice the element grooves in our kilns gives us more design flexibility than some of our competitors. It also gives you more loading options since it is always recommended to have at least one element radiating between each layer of shelves. Oh and by the way, twice the grooves means you get twice the amount of element wire, which means each element doesn’t have to work as hard, which means longer element life! Whew! |

Zone Control Thermocouple in each section of the kiln allows controller to control each section separately to even out temperature variations top to bottom. Critical when fusing on multiple shelves and annealing large blown vessels. Works in conjunction with balanced elements to ensure firing efficiency. |
The Thermocouple Thin-walled inconel cover equals faster reaction time and higher accuracy. Easy and quick to replace. GM818, GM1018. and GM1227 all come with Zone Control. Since these kilns are designed to fire on multiple levels we place a thermocouple in each section to keep the temperature uniform from top to bottom. |

Kiln Shipping Information
The most important thing to remember is that almost all kilns ship for FREE to the contiguous United States. If you need a kiln shipped outside of the lower 48 please contact us by phone at 314-963-0180 or email sales@kruegerpottery.com to obtain a freight quote.
You probably realize that kilns can be very heavy and you may be nervous about ordering one online and having it shipped, but we will help you make the process smooth and easy.
Most kilns ship on a truck rather than by UPS, but don't worry, because just like a UPS shipment we handle all the paperwork and logistics.
Receiving a Kiln
Kilns are shipped on wooden pallets or crated in wooden boxes and delivery by a trucking company does not include unpacking the kiln, moving it into your building or hauling away any packing materials. If your kiln is being delivered to a residential location or a location without a loading dock we will request a lift gate so the kiln can be removed from the truck and placed on level ground. When the truck arrives the driver will unload the kiln and move it on the pallet or crate to a location near the truck. Most drivers are accommodating and will place the kiln in a reasonable location at your request BUT trucking companies are only required to unload the kiln from their truck so you should have a plan in place to move it to the final location. All kilns come with instructions on how to unpack and move your new kiln. For residential deliveries freight companies will schedule a delivery window with you in advance so you can be prepared to move your kiln to the final location.
Kiln Inspection and Damage
- It is YOUR responsibility to inspect merchandise prior to the delivery agent's departure. Inspecting your shipment includes checking for missing items as well as looking for damage to the items and the packaging. We have a signed BOL (Bill of Lading) stating that the shipment left our warehouse complete and in good condition so it is critical you inspect BEFORE signing for receipt. If you sign the receipt without a note indicating damage and/or missing items it is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE for us to file a claim on your behalf.
- If the merchandise OR packaging appears to be damaged in any way, please note the damage on the freight bill and retain a copy (a photo of the paperwork is fine). This will aid in the return/replacement process. In the case of damage you may refuse the delivery. If you do this you must contact us immediately so we can work with the carrier to resolve the issue.
- If damage is discovered after the driver has left, contact us IMMEDIATELY. If you do not contact us within 5 days damage claims CANNOT be made with the carrier and you will be responsible for repair costs. As long as damage is reported to us within 5 days we can file a claim to get it repaired. For this reason it is critical you open and inspect all freight deliveries before the window closes.
