The goal of this class is to learn about the qualities and functions of the materials that comprise the glazes and clays that we use. This will allow students a more holistic understanding of their own process as well as open up the possibility for more individualized approaches. Much of what will be covered may not be immediately applicable without further preparation on the part of the student.
All practical applications will be done in a mid-fire oxidation context.
Week 1: Introduction to glaze development and materials
Week 2: Color Development
Week 3: Review of Color Tests
Week 4: Clay Bodies and Slips
Week 5: Glaze Application
Week 6: Roundup
Please note: This tentative schedule is subject to change based on student interests.
