Birthdays are better when you've got MUD!
We offer two birthday party sessions to fit your schedule & budget. The sessions give kids or adults a fun overview of the entire ceramic process from moist clay to fired ware.
Please do not plan to serve food at our studio. Due to the clay and glaze dust it is not a safe eating environment for children, however, the Old Orchard area in Webster Groves is full of fun places to eat (see our recommendations below).
Children should wear old clothes.
Option 1 Handbuilding (Ages 6+)
$10.00 per person with a minimum charge of $100.00 (max 15)
This one hour session offers a brief overview of the pottery making process. We explain the terms greenware, bisqueware, & glaze ware & talk about the glazing & firing process. Students will make one or two of the following projects: pinch pot, pinch pot monster, slab tile, coil pot or slab box. The pieces are then glazed with a color that the birthday kid or kid at heart gets to pick! The pots can then be picked up about two weeks after the session.
Option 2 Wheel-Throwing (Ages 8+)
$15.00 per person with a minimum charge of $150.00 (max 14)
During our one hour and thirty minute session, students work on the potter's wheel experiencing the art and craft that is "throwing". Instructors will demonstrate the basic techniques and assist students individually. Throwing is not an easy task so we emphasize the experience over the final product. Participants will make 2 to 3 pots each. The pots will then be glazed in the color the birthday kid or kid at heart chooses! Finished pots can be picked up in about two weeks.
