Craft & Merit Badges in Pottery for Scout Troops
Offering two sessions to fit your schedule & budget
Our aim is to give your scouts an overview of the entire ceramic process from moist clay to fired wares. Please wear old clothes and bring a towel

#1 HANDBUILDING (Ages 6-14) This one hour session offers a brief overview of the pottery making process. We explain the terms greenware, bisqueware, & glazed ware & talk about the glazing & firing process. We take a tour of the gallery and kiln room to look at different types of pottery and firing processes. In the studio portion of the class, the children make one or two pots using the pinch, coil, or slab method. The pieces are then glazed with a blue glaze. The pots can then be picked up about two weeks after the session.
$10.00 per child with a minimum charge of $100.00 (max 15)

Example Session: 4-5pm
4-4:15pm Tour of the Gallery (optional), glazing area & kiln room.
KEY TERMS: bisque, greenware, earthenware, cone, stoneware, glaze & firing.
4:15-4:50pm Scouts will make 1-2 of the following projects: pinch pot, pinch pot monster, slab tile, coil pot or slab box
4:50-5pm Clean up, vote on glaze color

#2 USING THE POTTERY WHEEL (Ages 8-14) Our hour & a half session also has a tour through the process, but children work on the potter's wheel. This class is designed to be a fun and informative expereince in clay; a basic introduction to wheel throwing. Students will make 1-3 pots which are glazed in blue by your instructor. Finished pots can be picked up two weeks later.
$15.00 per child with a minimum charge of $150.00 (max 12)

Example Session: 4-5:30pm

4:15-5:15pm Scouts will work on the pottery wheel usually making 2-3 pots
KEY TERMS: center, open, pull, bat, throwing, lip, foot
5:15-5:30pm Clean up, vote on glaze color
