Presenting the Shimpo "Add-A-Vac" Pugmill
Shimpo add-a-vac pugmill with optional vacumn pump
shown
The "Add-A-Vac" Pugmill from Shimpo is the newest
addition to the Shimpo line. Its' revolutionary design allows
you to buy the basic pugmill now, and upgrade to de-airing later.
The vacuum unit is compact and EASY to attach!
Heavy-duty construction and traditional Shimpo quality
make the "Add-A-Vac" ideal for professional use. With
or without the vacuum pump, the "Add-A-Vac" is easy
to disassemble and clean and the retractable clay rest saves space.
Safety systems include a key switch and an optional limit switch
that automatically shuts off the machine when the augers are exposed.
How Does It Work?
When clay is fed into the hopper of the pugmill, a series
of fan type blades mounted on a shaft propel the clay down the
barrel of the machine. At the point where the clay is exposed
to the vacuum chamber, it is simultaneously forced through a
series of small holes which effectively shred the clay while
it is under the vacuum pressure. This ensures that no air bubbles
remain in the clay. More blades then force the clay into an extrusion
barrel and provide an even compression as the clay leaves the
machine. |

Why Should I Own A Pugmill?
The purchase of a pugmill can greatly increase the
efficiency and quality of your work and the work of your students.
A pugmill eliminates the need for wedging and makes the processing
of reclaimed clay in preparation for handbuilding and throwing
less physically taxing. Wedging, while often a character building
experience for students, quickly takes it's toll on the hands
and wrists, and requires open table space. Pugmills produce far
superior clay in less time with less work, and ensure that all
of your clay has a homogenous consistency with no air bubbles.
Pugged clay also has better particle alignment than wedged clay,
giving better plasticity with less warpage.
