North Star Slab Rollers
Why are two rollers better than one? There are slabrollers on the market that use a "traveling roller design" with one roller moving over the slab roller table. Slab thickness adjustments on single roller machines are made by the use of heavy, bulky, wood or masonite shims which are slid in and out of the machine. They are difficult to maintain and use. Single roller machines often produce inconsistent slab thickness, and result in feathered edges which must be trimmed. North Star Slab Rollers The North Star Slab Rollers are built from durable materials such as machined steel and special alloy aluminum. All metal surfaces are either zinc plated or painted for durability and corrosion resistance. The table tops are made of medex, which is durable and easy to clean. All North Star machines are dual roller drive. There are two series of North Star slab rollers: The Standard Series, used by most studio potters and the Super Series, designed for heavy use in schools and industrial/institutional settings. The most obvious differences are in the drive system which, in the standard series, runs through 2 1/2" rolls on a 48" medex tabletop with the direct drive to the gear set through the bottom roller. In the Super Series machines have 4" rollers with 72" long tables.
